Deep from the mystical seas where it is said the ancient land of Atlantis are buried, lie lost treasures. These ARTiFActs were collected by my muse during her recent holiday. She was kind enough to bring them home with her so that unique pieces of jewelry could be created. Each fragment holds a bit of magic from ancient cultures.
The focal point of this ethereal pendant was formed with paper clay. I love working with this medium as it is biodegradable and lightweight. The clay takes a few days to dry. Then it has several layers of gesso painted on, followed by paints of gorgeous hues of blues, teals, sea green, gold, bronze and a tinge of pink purple. A protective glaze is added at the end.
A small mirror is embedded in the piece to reflect light. A gorgeous turquoise stone with veins wire wrapped with non-tarnish copper wire and glass beads holds the pendant. The pendant measures about 4.5 inches.
Semi-precious turquoise is one of the oldest stones in the history of man. It is used by the Native Americans for protection and healing. It is used as a talisman for travelers. In the orient it is used for good fortune. Turquoise is a stone for self-forgiveness, self-acceptance and the release of useless regrets. It encourages us to honor ourselves as a creation and a tool of the Divine. Turquoise is one of the birthstones for December.
This artisan pendant is on a recycled silk sari ribbon of blues, pinks and sea green hues. Tie in a bow at the length you desire. This beautiful, up-cycled ribbon is created by women in Fair Trade co-ops by collecting the remnants of sari silk fabric accumulated during the trimming of fabric during the manufacturing process. Whenever possible i buy supplies from those companies who support the Fair Trade women co-ops.
Please note that the colors in the photographs may slight vary from the original piece. Capturing the subtle hues is difficult. Several coats of paint were used to create an ethereal effect.
